In summer 2025, Hall A of the Tampere Exhibition and Sports Centre will receive a new, energy-efficient, and lightweight PVC roof. The 12,500 m² roof of the hall, originally built in 1985, will undergo a comprehensive renovation. The main contractor for the project is Suomen Teollisuuskatot.
This is not just a surface-level renovation – it’s a complete upgrade that brings significant energy savings, reduces structural load, and extends the building’s lifecycle.
The new PVC roof offers tangible benefits for property owners, users, and event organizers alike:
The new roof structure is designed to minimize stress on the hall’s frame. Nearly 80% of the building envelope will also be renewed, improving the overall energy efficiency and structural integrity of the facility.
The success of the project is built on careful planning, open dialogue, and strong collaboration between all parties. Previous successful projects – such as the renovation of Hall C’s roof in 2022 – laid a solid foundation for this undertaking.
The project management consultant is Insinööritoimisto Taloinsinöörit, and the subcontractor is the experienced Sternfelt Oü, known for its expertise in PVC roof installations.
Project consultant Seppo Välimäki has been involved from the beginning, ensuring that the client’s requirements and wishes are reflected in both the design and execution. His active role has also enabled the early integration of improvements into the project.
“Suomen Teollisuuskatot was a natural choice as the contractor – our collaboration has always been smooth and high-quality. Their ability to respond quickly and flexibly makes them an excellent partner for renovation projects,” says Välimäki.
Tomi Norrby, CEO of Suomen Teollisuuskatot Oy, is also pleased to continue the partnership:
“We’re excited to continue this trusted collaboration. It’s great to carry out another important renovation project with familiar and skilled partners.”
The roof renovation of Hall A is a prime example of responsible renovation. Instead of building new, the existing structure is updated to meet today’s energy efficiency and building standards. This approach conserves natural resources, reduces waste, and lowers the building’s carbon footprint.
Recycling of demolition materials is also a key part of the project, carried out in cooperation with our trusted recycling partner Revisol Oy. The goal is to minimize environmental impact and maximize material reuse. Recycling solutions are tailored to each project – as in the Hall C renovation, where the old PVC roofing was collected and repurposed.
The renovation will be completed by autumn 2025, after which the hall will once again be ready to serve athletes and event visitors – now more energy-efficient and sustainable than ever.
