The comprehensive roof renovation of Finland’s most prestigious event arena and national pride, the Helsinki Olympic Stadium, was completed in August 2020. We were responsible for the PVC roofing and detailed roof design in collaboration with the main structural engineer. The waterproofing material is a light grey colored, lacquer-coated single-ply RENOLIT ALKORPLAN F Classic PVC membrane in 1.5 mm thickness.
The challenging wing shape of the stadium’s roof made wind load calculations extremely demanding. A scale model of the project was created and tested in a wind tunnel. The total roof area covered by the project was 15,600 square meters.
